Will becoming a Christian make me happy?

gift

There are few times in the year where we collectively anticipate happiness as much as at Christmas. Consider following up your Christmas events with a Bible-based series exploring where ultimate happiness can be found.

A few years ago, a group of artists in England asked thousands of people one question and based a show on the answers. The question was: What is your happiest memory?

Here’s what they discovered. Less than 1% of the happy memories had anything to do with material things. The memories were nearly always about ‘home’ and relationships of one kind or another.

The show ended up being a cross between a wedding and a wake. It was a celebration mixed with sadness, because these were memories of happiness. The happiness was gone, it hadn’t lasted.

Maybe you have similar memories of your own. Happiness happens, but it’s fragile. The truth is, we have such a deep desire for relationship, such a deep desire for home, that no earthly relationship, no earthly home is enough to bear the weight of those desires, except briefly.

Introducing Life Explored

Over seven interactive sessions, based on stunning films shot all over the globe, Life Explored is a series that helps people uncover what they’re really living for, and see how, in Christ, God meets their deepest desires for lasting happiness.

The structure of each session is simple: a short story film, Bible study, talk (you can give your own using our talk outlines or use our films) and a discussion based on the talk.

You can use it one-to-one, or in larger groups, in your church or a local coffee shop - it’s as flexible as you are. It can be run before or after Christianity Explored or Alpha, and is perfect for anyone looking for answers to life’s big questions.

Former Publicity Secretary of Leeds University Union CU, Katherine, explains how it worked for them:

“After our week of events we wanted to offer guests the option of a stepping stone between the events and church, to bridge the gap. We found Life Explored a great way to do this.

“We met every Tuesday evening in a coffee shop in the city centre. We enjoyed good coffee while watching the films and chatting through the passages and questions in groups.

“The conversations and questions that come up during the evenings are fantastic, and the Life Explored material is really helpful and engaging.”

Finding lasting happiness: Kenny's story

Screen Shot 2019-09-25 at 14.4

“My religious upbringing was fairly typical in that it was driven by my mom - my brother and I were kind of forced to go to church every Sunday but I never truly believed. When I went off to college I decided church wasn’t for me.

“My 20s were marked by a successful career and marriage to my college sweetheart. Things really looked like they were happening for me but this couldn’t be further from the truth. To fuel my frenetic lifestyle I turned to a cocktail of prescription pills. I got addicted to pornography and even started soliciting escorts. Eventually I got divorced. Around the same time my dad got diagnosed with cancer.

“I experienced a lot of depression and anxiety and a deep feeling of inadequacy. I’d wake up every morning telling myself that the world would be better off if I just ended my life. And it was in this darkness that I decided to revisit my faith from my childhood.

“I joined a Life Explored group where I found a wonderful community. The group discussions allowed me to voice all of my questions, concerns and issues I had with Christianity. Through the Life Explored series God revealed the truth that he had sent his son to die for me, that he knew all of my sins and insecurities. He saw them and he sent his son to die for them. I was able to see for the first time what the gospel is all about.

“If you are struggling with finding fulfilment and meaning in your life, this is a great place to begin that journey. I couldn’t be more thankful for Life Explored.”
